There are some companions who walk beside us not just as pets, but as guardians of the quiet, keepers of our magic, and co-creators of the world we build around us.
Â
Fennek was that soul for me.
Â
A majestic Maine Coon with fur the color of creams and autumn leaves, Fennek wasnât just a cat â he was a presence. He watched over every step of my creative journey, from the earliest dice experiments to the soft, cozy universe that would become Fennek & Finch.
Â
He loved to nap in the upstairs east-facing nook, where the sunlight would pool in warm little patches like it was made just for him. He had a special way of throwing his whole weight into my lap or arms with a kind of unbothered trust â big, grounding, full-bodied cuddles that made the world pause for a moment. When things felt chaotic or heavy, he was a quiet anchor.
Â
When I named the shop Fennek & Finch, it was in part for him. Fennek, my rooted and steady companion. Finch, the lightness of creativity, of song, of tiny magical details. Together, they are the balance I seek in everything I make â cozy and curious, soft and spirited.
Â
His passing has left a quiet ache, like a door to another realm gently closing. But his presence lingers â in every dice set I design, in every corner of this magical little shop, and in the way I now hold space for the familiars still with me.
Â
This post is for him â and for anyone who has loved and lost a familiar soul.

đ¸ What Comes Next
In the coming months, Iâll be releasing a special memorial dice set in Fennekâs honor. It will be layered in soft creams and oranges to reflect his coloring, with numerals in the shade of his eyes â either in a matte or softly translucent sparkling finish. Iâll share the story and photos when the time is right. Want to be notified when the Fennek Memorial Dice Set is released? Sign up below đ

And soon, Finch, Kismet, and Gremlin will have their own outdoor catio space â a dream I wish Fennek could have enjoyed, but one I know heâd approve of. Itâs being built with love, safety, and plenty of sunspots.
Â
Thank you for reading, and for being part of this journey. Whether youâve known Fennek through my work or are meeting his story now, I hope you feel a bit of the love that made this little corner of the internet possible.
Â
May all your familiars be close, whether beside you or beyond the veil.
